On Thursday, February 7, Deborah Yorlets faced a parent’s worst nightmare. Her beloved son, Nashville rocker Kyle Yorlets, was robbed and shot to death outside his home by five children, ages 12 to 16.
In an exclusive interview with RadarOnline.com, Deborah detailed the horrific moment she learned her son had been murdered.
“I knew it was terrible news,” Deborah revealed to Radar. “The chaplain that called wouldn’t tell me anything. At first she wanted to know if I was alone and she said ‘I think you need to bring someone in the room with you,’ and that’s when I knew. What can I say, you don’t really believe it.”
The grieving mother believes her 24-year-old son was simply “at the wrong place at the wrong time” when tragedy struck.

“These kids, they were just kids. They should’ve been in school. It was in the middle of the afternoon,” the sobbing mom said. “They aren’t allowed to drive let alone have a gun! We are all just devastated..”
Tomorrow, Deborah and the rest of Kyle’s family is heading from their native Pennsylvania to Nashville, where the 24-year-old was kickstarting his music career with his band.
Kyle, who was extremely close to his parents, had just spent a week with his family over Christmas, and had planned on visiting again in just two weeks.
“He was my everything,” Deborah said. “He was very very good at telling us all the time how much he loved us and how much he appreciated that we were supporting his career and that he couldn’t ask for better parents.”

The night before he died, Deborah joked with her son over text.
Hours later, Kyle was outside his home when the group of teens stole his wallet and then shot him after he refused to give up his car keys.
He then crawled into his house, where a roommate found him. He later died from his injuries at a local hospital.

“He was a fighter,” Deborah said.
Roniyah McKnight, 14, Diamond Lewis, 15, Decorrius Wright, 16, and a 12-year-old girl and 13-year-old boy were all charged with homicide.
While Kyle’s family awaits justice, Deborah told Radar they are “amazed” by the generous outpouring of support from friends, fans and strangers.
“We’ve always known he was a sweetheart, but to see how many people he has impacted means a lot to us,” she said. “He was very talented and kind. The world lost an angel.”
