England in South Africa: Tourists limp to 262-9 on day one at Newlands

Ollie Pope was the only England batsman to pass 50 despite a good pitch for batting
Second Test, Newlands, Cape Town (day one of five):
England 262-9: Pope 56*; Pretorius 2-26, Philander 2-46
South Africa: Yet to bat

Another dismal batting display by England saw the tourists limp to 262-9 against South Africa on day one of the second Test in Cape Town.

After the top order failed to build on decent starts on a good pitch, England recovered to 185-4 only to lose their next five wickets for 49 runs.

Ollie Pope made a defiant unbeaten 56 to ensure his side were at least not bowled out within the day at Newlands.

But England will likely again rely on their bowlers to stay in the match.

The Proteas are 1-0 up in the four-Test series.
